Factors:

(i) Reasons of increasing:

1. Lack of fertile land in West - Gujarat/Rajasthan/Maharashtra - More farmers are more reliant on animal husbandry

(by) Gujarat - exo cattle + camels

Rajasthan - small ruminants (goat, sheep, etc.)

(ii) Supply side factors:

1. Building of fodder for animals - western states feed straw, Pasture land are + some could be used for milk

1. Building of credit - financial allocations

2. Development of supply chains - Rural urban linkages - cotton mills in Ahmedabad, Nawrol - some could be used for milk

(iii) Demand 'wise reason':

1. Fodder growth of urban areas (e.g. Bombay/Mumbai) - demand for milk

(ii) Livened vessel Success:

1. Success of cooperatives - Farmers as entrepreneurs

2. Lack of political interference/limited participation of cooperatives (e.g) Government support to organization such as AMUL

(iii) Role of leadership - Vergese Kurien - helped establish National Dairy Board - Innovation, Productivity, etc.
