Main Body

The tribals were most exploited sub-groups during the colonial era. Ranaji called colonial presence in forest as "unjuste goods".

Causes of tribal discontent:

1Exploitative forest policy eg forest seen as a source of timber
2British distrust of tribal culture eg homelands → affected → declared criminal tribe
3Want for British → agriculture eg clearing of land → settled agriculture → Palamainae destroyed → sometime see (sic) of)

(A) "Exploitative nature" → destroyed wildlife & natural flora eg Battle of Aleberdeen with Great Amdamaree → Andamony a prison colony

(B) Lack of respect for indigenous culture eg forced conversion → Norm Zaat Andiu → Chautigaali.

(C) Suppressing movement & culture eg Award movement → Tribal unrest

3Use of one group of tribals against another eg santidata used to disarm out palaiurane. eg Great Amdamaree used to subdue Onghi of Shahnene.
4Lack of pan-tribal sentiment eg collective identity merged as a result of tribal exile.
5Bread and butter issues rather than grand ideas of Nationalism. However, as time went on many leaders of tribal such as Tagal Singh, allied the National struggle and then the constituent assembly in order to secure safety & prosperity for tribals.
