Main Body

Himalayan and peninsular drainage system differ due to origin, topography, lithology and drainage patterns.

Himalayan drainage → origin from himalayan glaciers (eg Kailash, Nanda, Kamet, Kunder) → perennial rivers → Indus, Jassty, Jamuna (Ganga), Testa. → River courses are long and winding.

Peninsular drainage → origin from peninsular plateau (mostly rainfall) → Monsoon dependency → seasonal rivers → Godavari, Narmada, Krishna → Radial and Trellis pattern → Amarkantak rivers → ephemeral rivers → limit. → less sediments (due to hard peninsular rocks) → mostly stable → Uses (mature stages)
