At present, India uses the Tendulkar committee's MRP system for defining poverty but it needs to be reconsidered given the changing socio-economic landscape. Divides in reducing poverty: Income-based poverty has reduced from 45% in 1951 to 18% in 2022 (NITI Aayog data) with nearly 14 million people coming out of poverty.
